JoAnne Scafidi pieced this show-stopper, and it is a true labor of love! Dozens of different blocks — baskets, stars, pinwheels, bear paws and more — are set on point and framed in crisp black sashing with tiny patchwork cornerstones, all floating on a warm tan background with a printed border. Every block is its own little mix of reds, blues, greens, golds and purples, like a scrapbook of traditional patterns stitched into one quilt.

I quilted it edge-to-edge in a Hilbarc design — a soft, flowing swirl that adds movement and texture without competing with all of that beautiful piecing. Up close, the swirls ripple across the tan background and settle gently into each block.

JoAnne’s quilt top measures 66″ x 88″. Lady Bird Quilts supplied the Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting and the premium 108″ wide cotton backing, so all that’s left is for JoAnne to add her own binding once it’s home.
